Support handmade in Africa

Beautiful hand made and  hand beaded adornments made by the Barabaig tribe of east Africa, Tanzania. The Amias project "The project aims to uplift and empower traditional culture. It also helps generate significant income and educational opportunities for disadvantaged communities.

Amias and its fair trade mission have allowed families to find stability in a region wracked by hardship and frequent drought. More parents now send their children to school, and they have enough food in times of need. They are increasing their livestock and making plans for the future.

A super cool location at the top of a parking garage to sip drinks, eat flammkuchen or other snacks , dip your feet in the pool, listen to nice music(at least when I was there)and have a cozy chat. Happy Mother's day! Here is an interesting book about "Giving Our Children the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts with Worry ". The book and corresponding website is written by a woman who caused a big uproar last year when she allowed her 9 year old to take the New York subway alone. Read about it here. The book can be ordered here. It made me think about childhood and parenting. Very befitting for Mother's day :) Enjoy the day!

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico.^[1][2] The holiday commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.^[3][4]

While outnumbered, the Mexicans defeated a much better-equipped French army that had known no defeat for almost 50 years.^[5]
