Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: Kids' Letters to President Obama
Edited by Jory John

A few days after the election of Barack Obama, 826 students around the country were asked to provide advice and guidance to their new President. In this collection, arriving at inauguration time, there's loads of advice for President Obama, often hilarious, sometimes heartfelt and occasionally downright practical. Kids from all over the country reach out to the 44th President, speaking to the issues closest to their hearts, relating their life stories, and asking for help. Topics include the economy, education, war, global warming, race relations in America and immigration. The book also includes letters about snow cones, puppies, microwavable burritos, dinosaur projects, multiplication and the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, reportedly haunting a White House bedroom.

Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country includes such advice as:

“If I were president, I would help all nations, even Hawaii." -- Chad Timsing, age 9, Los Angeles

“I really hope you put America back together. No pressure though." -- Sheenie Shannon Yip, age 13, Seattle

"1. Fly to the White House in a helicopter. 2. Walk in. 3. Wipe feet. 4. Walk to the Oval Office. 5. Sit down in a chair. 6. Put hand sanitizer on hands. 7. Enjoy moment. 8. Get up. 9. Get in car. 10. Go to the dog pound." -- Chandler Browne, age 12, Chicago

And, while it wasn't advice, exactly, we thought this was worth sharing:

"You are just like a big me." -- Avante Price, age 7, Seattle

We are all born.

cool video.

Troubled waters

My gosh!!!!! A powerful new documentary called "Trouble the Water'executive produced by Danny Glover. It is a never seen perspective up front and in the middle of the Katrina hurricane as experienced through Kim and Scott Roberts experience. This is a MUST SEE!

Look no further.

A soap that is made from biofuel. The glycerin that is extracted for the soap to keep it all slippery and nice is extracted from dismissed vegetable oil from Los Angeles restaurants. It sounds kinda weird, but also interesting with it's natural essential oils of bergamot, olive, and exotic grasses. It is a recycled product which is definitely a cool thing!

Happy Chinese New Year! What I found out about myself.....

Chinese Astrology - Description

Brooke Russell
THE METAL PIG

The Pig
The Boar
Metal
Brief Description
Pigs are very tolerant, kind and courteous with inner strength. They can be naive and too impulsive at times.
Positive Traits
sensible, sensual and sensitive, sweetly naive, caring, self-sacrificing, erudite, talented, open-handed, candid, outgoing, amusing, charitable, obliging, graciously hospitable and virtuous
Negative Traits
hot-tempered, pessimistic, outrageously epicurean, earthy to a fault, sardonic, snobbish, snide, authoritarian, competitive, know-it-all, stingy, victimized and sometimes downright criminally mad at the world
General Description
of All Pigs

"Its better to give than to receive" would probably be the Pig's motto. Pigs are more comfortable giving of their own time or attention than they are to ask others for it. They do not find asking for help an easy task and would rather carry the burden themselves. Pigs will do anything they can to maintain a sense of peace amongst family or friends. This can lead to a tendency to be taken advantage of, but Pigs basically forgive and forget everything. They are compassionate souls who simply want to keep the peace.

Detailed Description
of The Metal Pig
Outspoken and confident, Metal Pigs give 110% for everything they do. They throw themselves into relationships with others completely, sometimes to a fault. These Pigs are headstrong and diligent in the workplace, honest and caring in a relationship and trustworthy with everyone he meets unless given reason not to be. Metal Pigs usually give people more credit than they deserve but when challenged can be a hard nut to crack.

Valentines day is coming....

Very cute hand made bowls! I wish I wouldn't be such a scaredy cat that they would break during transport to europe.... These are so unique and gorge! Contemplating....... To buy or not that is the question??? From JDWolfepottery

These sound delicious! I ♥ pancakes!

Peanut butter pancakes. Yuuuummy. I absolutely positively adore pancakes and many other American regulars like hash browns etc. When I found these my mouth started watering immediately followed by the laughter of reading the blog that accompanied the recipe. If you get a second to look at the blog it is hilarious and has some tasty recipes. One of my fave articles was how to cater a gay wedding! Check it out! Acme Instant Food Blog

This is a good thing.

Don't we all have certain friends we would like to use this on???

The Electric Shock Lie Detector, seems to be funny but it is a practical gizmo, assesses lie levels with great accuracy using a succession of five LEDs - green to red, that light up with the degree of lie. It collects the data with each question you ask. Then evaluates coming information with the previous one. This means the more questions asked the more likely you are to be caught and more the LEDs will light up. The moms can really use one! carefull kids!

Recovering Obama addict!

I am a recovering Obama addict! For the past year I have studied and followed everything Obama. I have watched the news religiously as if it were my church. Now, a day after the BIG DAY, I can finally take a rest from my work as his number one fan!No stalking, but very close... Just kidding :) But today is a day of rest for my Obamaism..... Let's see how my obsession progresses during his presidency......

Today is the BIG DAY!

Today is the day that history will be made. A lot of hopes and dreams will come together and descend upon the Washington D.C. mall (where I personally often visited when I lived in Maryland in the 80's). I wish I could be there today amongst the well wishers and hope seekers. Who would have known back on those hot summer days in the early 80's the "Reagan years", that we would today be greeting a gracious, and charismatic Barack Obama on those very grounds. Patriotism or not, American or not, we are all WORLD citizens and must acknowledge this great accomplishment and feat!

Looking forward to the future......♥

Reflecting on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's. day today.. Looking forward to Obama's day tomorrow

What a strange and beautiful day! We are in the midst of one, but so looking forward to the other. We are at the most monumental day of my life. Many thought they would not see it in their lifetime... well some did not. Today is a day that I remember them too. The people that did not live to see this day that is upon us. I will revel in this day and the next knowing that I will absorb to the best of my ability with my entire being the meaning and symbolism of what this day means , for our nation, and for this world, for the past , and the present. It is a new day!

What is your favorite restaurant? Anywhere in the world....

I just ordered from a delivery service, as I am lying in bed sick:( I thought about the poor quality of the delivery services here in Hamburg where I live, which led me to think of delicious food elsewhere in the world. I know if I was in San Francisco for instance I would order from "Waiter's on wheels". They have almost every restaurant in the whole city available for delivery. Anything your heart/ stomach desires.

I thought about asking you what, and where your favorite restaurant is in the world....???
